Scaffolds & Inspections

Understanding scaffold statuses in Scafflinq

Every scaffold in Scafflinq displays a status that tells workers, supervisors, and clients whether the scaffold can be used, and under what conditions. The status is determined by the scaffold's most recent inspection outcome, its inspection schedule, and whether the 100% tie-off requirement has been enabled for that scaffold.

This article explains each status, what triggers it, and what it means for anyone accessing the scaffold.

How the 100% tie-off requirement works

The yellow status appears when a scaffold has passed inspection but has been marked as requiring 100% tie-off. This means workers must remain connected to an approved fall-arrest system, including a full-body harness and lanyard, for the entire time they are on the scaffold.

To use this feature, an administrator must first enable it:

  1. Go to Settings → Scaffolds & Inspections → Scaffolds

  2. Turn on Enable 100% tie-off option

Once enabled, a 100% tie-off field appears on scaffold records. Users can set it when creating or editing a scaffold.

Administrators can also turn on Default 100% tie-off to on for new scaffolds. When this setting is enabled, every new scaffold defaults to requiring 100% tie-off. Users can still change the setting on individual scaffolds when creating or editing them.

If the 100% tie-off option is not enabled in your admin settings, your scaffolds will only ever display the green, orange, red, and grey statuses.

Frequently asked questions

Does the tie-off requirement disappear when an inspection is coming up?

No. If a scaffold requires 100% tie-off and its next inspection is approaching, the orange status retains the tie-off label text: "Safe only while 100% tied off to approved fall-arrest". The requirement is always visible while the scaffold is usable.

Can a scaffold requiring 100% tie-off ever show green?

No. While the 100% tie-off setting is enabled on a scaffold, it will show yellow (or orange with the tie-off label) after a Safe inspection outcome. It will only show green if the tie-off requirement is switched off on that scaffold.

What happens if an inspection is missed?

The scaffold automatically changes to red with the label "Inspection overdue, this scaffold is not safe to use". This happens regardless of the previous inspection outcome or the tie-off setting. The scaffold must be re-inspected before it can return to a usable status.

Who can change the 100% tie-off setting on a scaffold?

Any user with permission to create or edit scaffolds can set the tie-off requirement on individual scaffold records, once an administrator has enabled the feature in admin settings.
